New Version of TaxCloud Implementation for Zen Cart – Now Supporting Tax Exemptions!

We are proud to announce a new version (v1.4) of the TaxCloud implementation for Zen Cart. This version includes a number of enhancements and bug fixes. It also supports coupon functionality and tax exemptions!

Zen Cart does not support tax exemptions on its own. The TaxCloud implementation allows customers to create, view, apply, and delete tax exemption certificates from within Zen Cart. Certificates are stored in TaxCloud so that they can be retrieved and applied to the order each time the user logs in to Zen Cart. None of the customer’s private data is stored on Zen Cart’s server. It is all securely stored within TaxCloud. The coupon and tax exemption modules can be turned on and off from within the Zen Cart management console.

This release is the only full-featured tax management solution for Zen Cart.

The installation directions are the same as for the other versions. The files can be downloaded here.

  1. When clicking download now is the TaxCloud settings, I get the following error:

Error – can’t open TIC file. You will need to add the tax classes manually. This is either a PHP configuration issue, a firewall issue, or a permissions issue.

I don’t know what to do from this point?

Hi, thanks for the question. You can create tax classes manually through Zen Cart’s admin interface. To do this you go to the “Locations/Taxes” menu and select the “Tax Classes” menu item. Here you can create tax classes for each of the categories of products in your store. You can find the appropriate tax identification codes, or “TIC” codes at http://taxcloud.net/tic/. You place the TIC ID in the “Tax Class Title” of the new tax class. For example if you were selling computers you would create a tax class with the title of “30100”.

Once you have created your tax classes you can assign these to your products by selecting it from the Tax Class drop-down on the product administration page.

Is there any way to have more friendly TIC ID’s show in the admin interface? I hate having to have a ‘TIC ID to product type’ chart tacked to my wall to do lookups when I should be able to have a drop down with the ‘type’ and have it correlate the proper TIC under the covers.

  3. Does this version work with the latest secure version of zen cart 1.5.1? THANKS
